Kings Creek Walk
Left Uluru covered in rain and almost invisible. I heard later it had rivers of water running down its sides all that day which was a rare sight. I left the rain as I neared Watarrka (Kings Canyon) and drove through a greening centre, which the locals have not seen in years. Watarrka looks like some bluffs bunched along a spinifex covered range.Took a late afternoon walk along Kings Creek and found the most beautiful plants covered in flowers, the most spectacular was the Holly Leaf Grevillea.
White trunked gums dominate this landscape and they are so resilient, they find footing in the shallowest of soils.

DeleteMust be heavenly to be experiencing the cooling rain. Water scenes evoke a sense of rugged tranquillity. Can't help feeling sorry that you missed seeing the water cascading down Uluru ('Missed it by THAT much!' as Agent 86 would have declared). Have never heard of Holly Leaf Grevillea. Fascinating, especially as one usually thinks of it as a cold climate plant.
ReplyDeleteYes Ally and these walks are very demanding on even a warm day as the rocks hold the heat and beam it back at you. Very easy to get dehydrated. I am doing lots of walks this trip and the effort has been rewarded.
