Uluru Base Walk

My last day at Uluru and after an interesting session about the culture of the custodians of this place, I set off on a 10klm walk around the base of the rock. Most of the walk is through Desert Oak and Kata Tjuta wattle with spinifex and wild flowers covering the ground. There is something almost living about the rock. Its hard to explain, but it has this living presence that is big, patient and ancient. Humans scurry around its side taking photos, reading about vegetation and listening to all the stories associated with every nook and cranny, but Uluru is like some all powerful, but benign prehistoric presence that neither notices or cares. We are insignificant

  1. Uluru 'fell over 90 degrees'! One can all but feel the land heaving and buckling. Extraordinary shapes everywhere. Definitely a place to help knock the human ego into perspective. How lovely to see correas flowering in the wild. We have planted quite a few recently in our new garden, along with other plants designed to attract birds. X
