Watarrka Rim Walk (Kings Canyon)

Set off in light rain for 8.4 klm walk which began with a steep 600 metre climb. I climbed through the cooling rain with the sound of the wind soughing through the Desert Oaks clinging to the side of the cliffs.

This lone native pine stands sentinel amidst giant stone domes.

 Looking down from the footbridge
Lichen that stains the rock wall and shows where water falls after heavy rain.
These next three photos are taken at the bottom of the canyon in a place called the Garden of Eden. It certainly felt like paradise! The MacDonnell Ranges Cycads below are 400 years old and they grow very slowly.

This walk is around the rim of Watarrka and has a couple of hairy bridges across the canyon which you can see through to the bottom of the canyon below. The most wonderful views were revealed in every aspect of this walk and was well worth the physical effort.

  1. You sure did deserve to be rewarded with the grandeur of those views, Viv, after that great physical effort. Even the thought of the hairy bridges makes my stomach plummet, though.
